Manali is a popular holiday destination, owing to the loads of fun and exciting activities available here. While being here, you may participate in paragliding, zorbing or skiing. You may also go on Bhubhu Pass trek, which is a lesser known yet amazing expedition. Reach the town at least a day prior to begin your excursion, so that you get ample time to rest and sightsee. This is quite an easy excursion as most of the walking that you will do is on flat ridges. The risk of altitude sickness will be negligible, for you will touch a maximum elevation of only about 9840 feet above sea level.
After beginning Bhubhu Pass trekking from Dalighat, to where you will drive from Manali, you will hike up to Dak Bungalow. The next section is quite lengthy, and during it you will walk across Bhubhu Pass, and travel to Jhingbhan. From here, you continue your journey with Bhubhu Pass trekking tour, and make for Dentbhial. Here you will camp on a small forest clearing by the banks of a hissing stream. You will start descending to Mulling the next day, meandering through the Barot valley. From Mulling, you will board a car and travel to Dharamsala.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 00 : Arrival in Manali
As you reach Manali, check-in at your lodging and spend the rest of the day at leisure. This beautiful hill station is approximately 6730 feet above the sea, and has a subtropical highland climate. The cool weather in summers and snowfall in winters draw tourists here in large numbers. You may stroll through the town, understanding its culture and buying some souvenirs. Visiting the famous Hadimba Devi Temple and bathing in the therapeutic sulphur-rich waters of the hot springs of Vashisht village are some things that you can do here. Stay overnight at your lodging today.
Day 01: Manali to Dalighat | Dalighat to Dak Bungalow Duration: 3 hours
Early in the morning, board a vehicle from Manali and drive down to Dalighat. You will first reach the town of Kullu, and then continue travelling to Dhalpur. As you reach here, you will turn towards the Lug valley, and go past a number of small villages.
Upon reaching the Dalighat village, get off your vehicle and get ready to begin this wonderful Bhubhu Pass trek. The path to your first campsite in Dak Bungalow goes through a mixed jungle of oak, walnut, deodar and horse chestnut. On reaching Dak Bungalow, travel to your lodging and stay overnight.
Day 02: Dak Bungalow to Jhingbhan en route Bhubhu Pass (9842 feet) Duration: 7 hours
A long and tough leg of Bhubhu Pass trekking awaits you in the morning. You will continue ascending through a forest of cedar and oak, and upon reaching a high clearing; you will be able to see peaks like Deo Tibba and Indrasan. Just as you are about to reach the pass, tall pindrow fir trees will start appearing!
The pass gives panoramic views of the Kangra Valley, which you will enter in the ensuing phases of this tour. You now tread across lush alpine grasslands with gentle slopes, and also through dense forests. On reaching Jhingbhan, find your campsite and rest.
Day 03: Jhingbhan to Dentbhial Duration: 6 hours
The ensuing section of this Bhubhu Pass trekking tour is long, but easy. You will continue cutting across the ridge, which has mostly a flat terrain, till you reach your campsite. The trail is lined with villages, which are surrounded by extensive contour farms. The campsite will be in a small clearing, from where you will be able to see the picture-perfect Kangra Valley. A brook flows through it, further making it a picturesque place to rest at night. As you arrive at the campsite, take rest for the night.
Day 04: Dentbhial to Mulling | Drive from Mulling to Dharamsala Duration: 4 hours
Upon waking up to a glorious sunrise, continue trekking through the meadows. On the way, you will cross many small villages, where you may stop to learn about the local culture and understand the rural ways of life. You keep descending till you reach the scenic valley of Barot, which is surrounded by forests of fir and deodar. After you reach the hamlet of Mulling, you will face a steep climb to the mountainous road, where a car will pick you up. You will now drive through the Himalayas and reach Dharamsala, where the tour comes to an end.
